Celebrate YOU

Reflecting on the year that has been and celebrating what you have achieved is such an important practice. Here is my easy-to-follow guide for celebrating you!

As the end of the year draws ever closer, it is the perfect and natural time to reflect on the year that has been. What have you learnt, what have you achieved, how much have you grown and evolved? It is also the perfect time to celebrate you and your accomplishments. A time to be proud of everything you have done. All too often we get bogged down in all the negatives, focussing on what an awful year it has been. But a lot happens in a year and it is important to celebrate yourself as well!

So, I invite you to take a small bit of time out of your day, before the end of the year, just to reflect and take stock of what you have done. To make things even easier I have included my own celebration ritual below which takes all of 5 minutes and is completely worth it.

Here is my guide to reflection and celebrating your amazing self.

  1. Find a quiet spot.
Sit quietly, maybe with a scented candle or some soft music playing. Close or lower your eyes and breathe deeply in and out through the nose. Breathe into your belly, ribs and chest, focussing in on your incredible body, give thanks to your body for carrying you through another year.
  2. Think of One thing you are Proud of.
Draw your attention to just one thing you are proud of, one thing you have achieved this year. This can be anything, big or small. Something as simple as, ‘I made it to a yoga class’, or something larger like, ‘I got a promotion.’ Whatever it is, find just one thing you have accomplished.
  3. Focus on that momentSmile!
Hold this moment, this thought, firmly in your mind and allow yourself a smile. Then take three deep sighs, breathing in through the nose and then out through the mouth.
  4. Write it down.
Open the eyes and either in a note pad or on a specific and special piece of paper, write down that one thing you are proud of.
  5. Repeat.
You can repeat this process numerous times on different days, allow the list to grow. If loads of things spring to mind from the off, then focus on all of them, write them all down! Aim to have at least 5 things on your list by the end of the year.
  6. Save it!
Save this piece of paper, this list and keep it as a reminder for 2020. Use it as a reminder that even when things get tough, you can still achieve so much in a year.
Tell people about all the things have done! Have a glass of champagne. Go out for dinner. Have a dance. Treat yourself to a manicure, an item of clothing. ANYTHING! We don’t celebrate ourselves enough, or our achievements, so use this time to celebrate YOU.

Remember, even if it isn’t visible, you have grown and evolved so much this year and that makes you incredible.

I would love to hear how you get on and if you would like to share any of your achievements in the comments, I would love to hear them.
